EVICTION PREVENTION
The goal of WAHA is to support development in Wilkinsburg that ensures Wilkinsburg remains a diverse community and helps low and moderate-income individuals and families achieve homeownership. We are committed both to supporting families as they prepare to purchase their first home and also to stabilizing the community by helping low-income renters maintain their current housing. WAHA makes referrals to the St. Mary Magdalene Social Ministries which can provide financial support for rent, utilities, and unforeseen emergencies. The Ministry Center also helps identify and support families who want to move to ownership.

SECTION 8 HOMEOWNERSHIP
Approximately 400 of our neighbors in Wilkinsburg are receiving Section 8 rental subsidies (Housing Choice Vouchers). Each of these families has the option of choosing the Section 8 Home Ownership program; this means that they have funding streams giving them the potential to buy a typical house in Wilkinsburg (perhaps the one they're living in now) and pay approximately the same amount they're paying now to rent.
